I follow many accomplished women on social media. Many have businesses, blogs, books and so much more going for them. These women truly inspire me to find out God's plans and purpose for me in each season of my life.
However, I began to notice I had a problem with starting to compare myself to them. I would tell myself to get something or anything done. I started rushing myself instead of waiting to hear from God about His will for my life. I even brought on sadness and depression in my life through not feeling adequate.
But God is so merciful that he sent me three reminders of why I need to stop comparing myself to others. The first reminder came in the form of a YouTube video of one of the women I follow on social media. The second reminder came in the form of a personal face to face conversation with another one of the women I follow. Lastly, the third reminder came from a sermon my pastor preached.
Basically, all of these encounters had the same messages for me to learn. One was that there is only one person like me! This means that I was placed here for a reason and not just to drift through life feeling sorry for myself. I was reminded of this in Jeremiah 1:5 KJV which says "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee,..." If God said this to Jeremiah, then the same can be said for you and me!
Two we never truly know the full extent of a person's life. I mean in terms of what they have to endure and experience to get to where they are. Social media has made it super easy to see the successes and wins in a person's life but the hard times are usually never revealed unless you are close to that particular person. So I am learning to not beat myself up because I don't know what happened behind the scenes before the victory became possible.
Lastly, I came to the realization that I wasted precious moments and time reflecting on someone else's journey in life. When I could have spent time working on my purpose or in prayer and study to find out my purpose! God is showing me that life is for the living and I encourage you to live your life more abundantly (John 10:10)!
