There is a beautiful hymn that says
All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
I surrender all,
I surrender all.
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
Let's look at what it means to surrender. Merriam-Webster defines surrender as to give the control or use of (something) to someone else. Now I know this definition does not make "surrendering" sound like a pleasant task but let me share some of my journey with you.
I knew about Jesus from growing up in the church but for some reason, I still had a fear of surrendering all to God. I did not know exactly what that would look like and was not sure what I would have to give up or let go of. It took me going through some trials and errors to get to a place of brokenness that I realized there had to be a better way to live.
Now God's Word says in Matthew 16:24-25 KJV "Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it." At that point in my life, I really wanted to find my life and I knew it meant surrendering all to Jesus. So finally one day in prayer, I decided to stop running from God and fully surrender to Him.
So what has been the result you may ask?
Well God has been cleaning me up and changing me for the better. I have been developing a real relationship with God through communication (prayer) and studying the Bible to better comprehend who God is. Not only is God changing my heart to be more like His but He is also restoring many of the areas that were broken in my life, such as emotionally, spiritually and physically.
If you have not already surrendered all to Him, then what is holding you back?
Is it fear?
Is it a loved one?
Is it something else entirely?
Whatever the reason, just reflect upon these words spoken by Jesus from the Bible found in Matthew 11:28-30 KJV "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
Here is your invitation to finally let go and surrender all.
The final question is
Are you willing to say yes and accept it?
